The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sarah Horowitz-Thran designed Midnight Promise as a statement. The fragrance was built around atmosphere and presence rather than heritage. Warm citrus from mandarin anchors the top, while Moroccan rose unfolds in the heart against deeper base notes. The oriental floral composition shifts as it develops on skin, moving from spice to floral to resinous warmth. The rose holds its own alongside amber, frankincense, and vanilla, refusing to retreat as the scent settles. What results is a fragrance that arrives with conviction and lingers through the interplay of floral and smoky depth.
A Moroccan rose sits buried in the heart of this composition. The rose is positioned between a cinnamony spark and a smoky, resinous base, surrounded by ingredients like patchouli, frankincense, and vetiver. The combination creates unexpected tension. Rose usually plays soft, romantic, safe, but here it shares space with warm spice and deeper notes that push back. The rose has to hold its ground, and on most skin, it does. The result is a different kind of oriental floral than you might expect.
The evolution
Cinnamon and blood mandarin arrive together, warm, citrusy, almost aggressive in the first five minutes. The mandarin keeps the composition from becoming cloying; the cinnamon keeps it from being polite. Then the mandarin fades and the rose steps in. A Moroccan rose, slightly resinous, less fresh than other varieties, with an earthiness that matches the base waiting below. By the second hour, the handoff is complete. Amber, frankincense, and vanilla layer over patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver. The smoke settles into the skin rather than the air. What lingers is warm resin, faint vanilla, and that frankincense edge. On clothing, this one lasts two days. On skin, expect 6-8 hours of presence that starts projection-heavy and ends intimate.
Cultural impact
Midnight Promise draws comparisons to YSL Opium and Tom Ford Black Orchid, fragrances at significantly higher price points. Community reviews suggest it fills a gap for consumers seeking oriental warmth and smoky depth without designer pricing. The scent features a Moroccan rose heart with cinnamon and smoky notes throughout, creating a complex oriental floral at a more accessible price point. Wearers consistently note the frankincense edge and the warm resin drydown as standout elements, qualities that invite repeated wearing rather than occasional application.
