The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Riad Jasmine translates the enclosed courtyard of a Moroccan riad into scent. The opening works as a doorway, bright, inviting, easy to read, with a crisp citrus quality that immediately captures attention. But the drydown needed to carry the soul of the place. Cedar and frankincense provide that foundation, the warmth that lingers after the florals fade, creating a resinous embrace that feels both grounded and airy. The composition draws on a broader floral palette, creating depth and complexity that evolves on the skin. Jasmine notes interweave with subtle green undertones, revealing layers that shift and develop over time. Each application unveils a nuanced aromatic experience, with florals softening into a creamy, slightly animalic presence that lingers with quiet persistence.
The top notes hit hard and immediately, tangerine bright, raspberry jammy, date sweetness grounding it all. Pine threads through to keep it cool and green, preventing the sweetness from cloying. The heart belongs to jasmine, full and warm, with lily of the valley adding watery freshness and cedarwood providing structure. The base settles into oud, frankincense, and musk, warm, resinous, intimate. The full arc moves from cool citrus-fruity through warm floral into deep woods and resins. That's the interest here: the structure itself. Most jasmine fragrances stay in one register. This one travels.
The evolution
The opening burst of tangerine and raspberry arrives like light flooding through a riad courtyard, bright, almost jammy, with pine threading underneath to keep it grounded. The heart develops as jasmine takes over in full, not delicate but warm and sensuous, while lily of the valley and cedarwood build shade and structure around it. The drydown arrives quietly once the florals fade. Oud emerges first, deep and resinous, followed by frankincense that carries the lingering sweetness of burned incense from somewhere above. Musk wraps everything in something animalic and intimate. The arc moves from cool and green through warm and sensual into dark, resinous depth. The progression feels intentional, each stage building naturally on the last, with the fragrance revealing new facets as it settles into the skin.
Cultural impact
Riad Jasmine offers a contemporary jasmine interpretation that stands apart from traditional indolic versions. The fruity-floral opening is accessible; the oud and frankincense base is where it earns complexity. The approach gives the composition genuine structure, cool opening, warm heart, deep drydown. The fragrance fits into Azman's broader catalog of place-based fragrances, offering a floral-forward alternative to the brand's more oud-focused offerings. This release demonstrates how a house can explore different aromatic territories while maintaining a cohesive creative vision.
