The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Moon Sigh arrived in 2021 as part of a collection that already included Voodoo Flowers and Bohemian Woods. The composition leans into darker, more contemplative territory, moving away from the kinds of bright, energetic accords that dominate much of the fragrance market. It centers on dry, papery notes and roasted coffee, with a woody foundation that gives the scent its weight and persistence. The overall effect is introspective rather than performative, the kind of fragrance that asks to be noticed rather than demanding attention.
The middle registers of Moon Sigh reveal themselves with a sense of quiet confidence. Papyrus brings a dry, almost mineral quality, while coffee adds depth and a faint bitterness that keeps the composition from feeling sweet or linear. These notes arrive without ceremony, creating an impression of complexity that doesn't announce itself. The base settles into leather and patchouli, with oakmoss present but subdued, playing a supporting role rather than taking center stage.
The evolution
Bergamot opens bright and citrusy, then rosemary and elemi move in to take over. Pine is present from early on, cool and resinous, grounding the top notes without overwhelming them. The heart introduces papyrus and geranium alongside coffee, a dry and slightly medicinal combination that gives Moon Sigh its distinctive character. The drydown features leather, smooth and warm, with patchouli deepening the composition as vetiver and oakmoss linger in the background. The fragrance maintains a quiet presence on skin, with a sillage that stays close to the body rather than projecting loudly across a room.
Cultural impact
Elemi resin carries a distinctly aromatic quality, something between citrus and pine, and it pairs well with coniferous materials like pine and herbal notes such as rosemary. In perfumery, these ingredients often appear together in fragrances that aim for an austere, somewhat medicinal character. Moon Sigh uses this combination as a starting point, then deepens it with papyrus and coffee to push the composition into darker, more introspective territory. The result fits within a tradition of fragrances that favor complexity and restraint over immediate beauty or accessibility.
