The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Araxi Parfum debuted in 2019, a young house that builds its palette from the textures and tones of Sardinia. The name is its own kind of anchor, and the scent itself reads like that hour compressed into glass. Perfumer Simone Scaglietti built it around a clear structure: citrus, galbanum, thyme at the top, iris and myrtle through the middle, and a base of amber, cedar, guaiac wood, and patchouli. Fresh at first. Mineral. Then warm and grounded as the composition settles. The brand's own note on the bottle says it plainly: fresh as a breeze, enveloping as the sea, warm as the earth. The citrus opening carries that brisk, sun-cut clarity, with galbanum laying down a green, resinous counterpoint that feels almost architectural.
What's interesting here is the restraint. Galbanum and thyme could easily tip the composition into something sharp or aggressively herbal, but the iris does the heavy lifting in the middle, softening the green edges into something powdery and almost cool. Myrtle brings a slightly sweet, herbaceous lift that gives the heart its quiet character, bridging the green opening to the woodier terrain below. The base then grounds everything in cedar and guaiac rather than sweeter resins, which keeps the composition dry, composed, and intentional.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bright and herbal. Galbanum cuts through, thyme lifts above it, and the citrus wraps around both without sweetening. There is a green, resinous edge that reads almost like crushed leaves on warm skin. By the thirty-minute mark, the sharpness softens. Iris moves forward, powdery and cool, and the myrtle settles in alongside it, a slightly camphoraceous, herbal sweetness that lends the heart its particular warmth. The composition feels quieter, more contemplative, as the green recedes and the floral takes over. The drydown emerges around the three-hour mark. Patchouli and guaiac wood deepen the base into something warmer and more earthen. Amber rounds it out without adding obvious sweetness. The projection reads as above-average, present in a room without filling it. As hours pass, the base settles into a steady, wood-driven warmth.
Cultural impact
Araxi Parfum has carved out a distinct place within the niche fragrance landscape by anchoring its work to a specific place and set of materials. The debut release drew notice in niche-fragrance circles and regional Italian press for its restraint and regional identity. Distribution has remained measured, favoring curated concept stores over broader retail channels. The brand's commitment to its Sardinian roots, from native flora to coastal inspiration, gives its compositions a sense of place that resonates with wearers seeking something grounded and intentional.
