The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mukhallat Al Shiyoukh is built around the concept of the mukhallat, the blended compositions that have defined Arabian perfumery for generations. The name itself translates roughly to a blend of elders, a reference to the layered wisdom of traditional mukhallat compositions. Arabian Oud approached this fragrance as a study in contrast: the sharp, green intensity of galbanum against the warm, sweet heart of rose and warm spices. Not a quiet composition. A statement one.
What makes this notable is the galbanum. In a category dominated by saffron, oud, and amber, the sharp, green, almost medicinal quality of galbanum in the opening is a deliberate counterpoint. It creates tension, chemical, almost bracing, before the warmth arrives. This structure is the story: the astringency first, the comfort after. The sillage is enormous. The longevity reaches 8-10 hours. The galbanum opening cuts through the sweetness, and that contrast is what makes it memorable.
The evolution
The top notes hit with force, galbanum's sharp green intensity and lemon's clean citrus pop filling the space. For the first thirty minutes, this is all herb and citrus, almost medicinal in its clarity. Then the hand-off begins. Around the two to four hour mark, the heart announces itself: rose, clove, and cinnamon weaving into a warm spiced floral that replaces the sharpness entirely. Lavender and jasmine add clean, powdery contrast. The rose-cinnamon pairing is where this lives. The drydown settles into vanilla and amber, sweet, warm, intimate, while patchouli and musk ground the sweetness and cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver build a woody, slightly earthy base. What remains on skin after 8-10 hours is this amber-vanilla warmth, fading slow.
Cultural impact
Mukhallat Al Shiyoukh occupies a particular space: warm, sweet, and generously projected, yet structured around a galbanum opening that challenges the expected. The sillage is enormous and the longevity substantial. Since 2020, it's accumulated positive community feedback for both longevity and projection, with the galbanum counterpoint earning particular attention, a notable departure from typical oud compositions, and a draw for those seeking something outside the expected warmth.
