Why it exists.

Tonka Tesoro translates roughly to "tonka treasure," and the name sets the brief: Brazilian tonka bean absolute is the centerpiece, the reason this composition exists. Perfumer Wessel-James Kos composed it for AMOROS, and the fragrance reads as an act of devotion to a single material. The tonka bean's warm, almond-vanilla character gets surrounded by sandalwood, patchouli, raspberry, and a saffron-bergamot opening that earns its way in. Kos built this one ingredient-first. You can smell the intent from the first spray, where the saffron lands with that bruised-honey weight and the bergamot cuts a clean line through it, before the fruit and resinous base notes gather underneath.
What's interesting here is the way the top notes do real structural work instead of just decorating. Sicilian bergamot and Austrian clary sage sharpen the saffron's bruised-honey quality, so the opening reads almost aromatic before the fruit and florals arrive. The raspberry-jasmine-geranium heart is where the composition commits to its sweetness, but the Mysore sandalwood and Indonesian patchouli in the base keep pulling it back toward something drier and more grounded.
The evolution
The opening is the most animated moment: bergamot brightness over saffron's leathered warmth, clary sage lending a dry, slightly medicinal edge that keeps the sweetness honest and stops the top from reading as just a fruit-saffron hook. As the composition settles, the raspberry blooms into something fuller, rounded by jasmine and Egyptian geranium into a jammy, almost wine-like fruit phase that still carries that sage backbone underneath. The base materials start rising once the heart begins to loosen, and the transition feels gradual rather than abrupt. Mysore sandalwood arrives with its creamy, milky softness, Indonesian patchouli grounds the composition with something earthy and slightly resinous, and the Brazilian tonka bean absolute takes over center stage, the warm almond-vanilla note that gives the fragrance its name.
