Why it exists.
The beginning
Imramma launched in 2018 from Alkemia Perfumes, the indie house built by Sharra Lamoureaux, who composes the formulations herself. The brand framed it as 'an aequorial meditation on ocean and moonlight at the edge of the sea where land and water meet,' and the composition reads exactly like that: not a beach towel scent, not a tropical breeze, but the in-between zone where coastal grasses lean into tidal air and the light goes silver. The opening carries a cool, briny hush, seawater and salt settling onto skin like the first breath of fog rolling off a cold coast. Juniper cuts through with a green, almost bitter clarity, while French lavender softens the edges with its herbal, slightly medicinal sweetness.
What makes the structure unusual is how few sweet notes it carries. Imramma skips the easy routes entirely. Instead it stacks aromatic and herbal materials (French lavender, juniper, yarrow, ambrette) against genuinely saline ones (seawater, seaweed, salt, beachgrass), then threads cedar and alder through the middle to give the greens something woody to lean on. The result is a composition that smells mineral, botanical, and faintly ancient, more North Atlantic tide pool than Mediterranean resort.
The evolution
The first spray opens with that seawater and salt hit, sharp and immediate, the way cold air hits when you step outside near the coast. Within ten minutes the lavender and juniper arrive, cooling the salt down into something herbal and clean. The heart phase is where ambrette does its quiet work, lending a skin-warm musk that keeps the composition from feeling purely aquatic. Cedar and alder settle in underneath, giving the mids a dry, papery woodiness that smells like driftwood more than forest. The drydown is where it lives longest: salt fades first, the lavender softens to a whisper, and what's left after 4-6 hours is a blend of ambrette's warm musk, beachgrass's dry hay note, and a thread of cedar that stays close to skin. On fabric the next morning, it's mostly ambrette and faint salt, a memory of coastline more than a statement of it.

Imramma occupies a particular place in the indie fragrance landscape: the genuinely coastal composition that stays with real herbal and woody botanicals rather than reaching for synthetic marine shortcuts. It draws wearers who want the idea of a shoreline without the tourist-brochure gloss, people who already know what beachgrass and bayberry smell like and want that specificity in a bottle. Among indie houses known for atmospheric and nature-focused work, it sits within a recognizable conversation, though Alkemia's house style elsewhere tends toward warmer, more resinous territory.
