The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Afnan built the Highness collection to explore what confident really means. Each fragrance in the line takes a different angle on it. Highness VI leans all the way in. The brief was simple: bold enough to announce a room, complex enough to reward attention. A rich oriental luxury cologne built on amber, spice, and a mineral depth that only ambergris can bring. The name says it all.
What sets this composition apart is the mineral anchor. Ambergris rarely carries the opening in this way, it usually lingers in the base as a fixative. Here, it drives the first impression alongside fresh notes and nutmeg, giving the fragrance an almost maritime clarity before the aromatic heart takes over. The blackcurrant adds a dark fruit note that keeps lavender from reading too cleanly. And oakmoss, used sparingly, brings an earthy sophistication that balances the warmth. The result is a blue fragrance with actual depth, not just clean and fresh, but layered and lasting.
The evolution
The opening doesn't ease in. Ambergris hits first, mineral and slightly marine, followed immediately by nutmeg's warm bite. The fresh notes recede quickly, leaving a spicy clarity that lasts about twenty minutes. Then the lavender arrives. It takes over the heart entirely, aromatic, clean, slightly medicinal, and stays there for two to three hours. Blackcurrant underneath adds a dark, jammy sweetness you feel more than smell. As the lavender softens, patchouli moves in, earthy and grounding. The drydown is where the fragrance earns its reputation. Amber and musk settle close to the skin, warm and animalic. Oakmoss lingers longest, the earthy, mossy undertone that stays on fabric well into the next day.
Cultural impact
Afnan built its reputation on outperforming fragrances at several times the price, and Highness VI is a case in point. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves. It draws comparisons to established blue fragrances but delivers more spice and stronger projection. A blue beast that belongs in any modern collection.
