The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Team Five landed in 2013 as part of Adidas's growing fragrance range, an extension of the brand's athletic identity into something you could wear beyond the field. The name echoes team sport: five players, one unit, synchronized movement. The brief was to bottle that pre-game energy, the electric moment when everything aligns and you're ready to move. Green apple and lemon opened that chapter bright and tart, setting the tone for a fragrance that doesn't complicate things.
The note structure leans into contrast. Green apple brings a tart sweetness that hits first, immediate, almost juicy. Lemon amplifies that brightness before basil grounds the opening with a slightly bitter, green edge. In the heart, lavender and mint form an aromatic pair that cools the initial sweetness, while sage and pine add a herbal, outdoorsy texture. The base is small but effective: benzoin adds a warm, resinous sweetness while amber gives just enough depth to keep the drydown from feeling flat. It's a clean pyramid, no excess, no showboating.
The evolution
The opening hits crisp and tart, green apple and lemon right up front, with basil lending a quick herbal lift. It reads bright for the first twenty minutes, like stepping outside on a cold morning. Then the heart takes over: lavender and mint arrive together, cooling the sweetness into something calmer and more aromatic. Sage and pine linger underneath, keeping the mid-section grounded in green herbal territory. By the second hour, the benzoin and amber begin to show, a warm, slightly sweet base that settles close to the skin. The drydown is intimate and soft, the kind that only someone standing beside you would notice. On most skin types, the full arc runs 1-3 hours before the scent fades to a quiet warmth.
Cultural impact
Team Five sits comfortably in the accessible athletic fragrance space, the kind of scent that doesn't ask you to think. Fresh, green, and uncomplicated. Worn by people who want something present but never overbearing, it fills the gap between performance wear and everyday grooming.
