The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
For the 110th anniversary, Acqua di Parma needed a Milessimo that meant something. Perfumer Alexis Dadier was tasked with honoring Colonia Il Profumo without simply repeating it. The solution: push deeper into the green, the aromatic, the slightly resinous. Mediterranean brightness was never in question. The question was what lay beneath it.
The choice of orange leaf absolute over raw leaf is the tell. That material carries a bitter, almost camphorated green that reads as distinctly Mediterranean, the smell of sun on resinous plants. Ylang-ylang, from Madagascar, brings a creamy floral counterweight that prevents the composition from becoming all sharp edges. Dadier built this as a response to a specific challenge: what does restraint smell like when you're not holding back?
The evolution
The citrus arrives fast and stays bright for the first thirty minutes. Blood orange, bergamot, grapefruit, petitgrain in quick succession, the way a Sicilian morning announces itself. No subtlety here. Just vivid, immediate presence. By the hour mark, the heart opens. The citrus softens without disappearing, becoming rounder, almost warm. Rosemary and ylang-ylang arrive together, orange leaf absolute threading between them with that crisp, bitter-green snap. This is where the fragrance earns its complexity. The drydown strips everything back to vetiver and patchouli, earthy and close, the kind of warmth that stays near the skin for hours. This is the part you'll find on your wrist the next morning.
Cultural impact
Limited 2025 release marking 110 years of Acqua di Parma. A refinement of the Colonia Il Profumo formula that deepens the green and aromatic dimensions while keeping the house's signature brightness intact. The Millesimato edition uses the year's finest raw materials to create a more nuanced expression, reflecting the brand's commitment to seasonal variation and artisanal quality over mass production.
