The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Telethon 96 Mûre Sauvage arrived in 1996 as part of Yves Rocher's annual Telethon series, a line of limited-edition collector's bottles paired with charitable fundraising. The composition sat inside the Les Plaisirs Nature family, Yves Rocher's botanical line that translates plant-based ingredients into wearability. A collector's bottle housed the formula, which makes this less a launch and more an annual gesture, the kind of release that lands on a vanity once and stays there. The '96 edition took wild blackberry, mûre sauvage, as its central note, a fruit that reads on skin as tart-edged and sun-warmed rather than candy-sweet.
What's worth noticing here is the shape of the composition. Three ingredients carry the entire weight: Iso E Super, blackberry, and musk. One synthetic wood-amber molecule, one fruit, and one skin scent working in close conversation. Iso E Super does heavy lifting as a diffuser, giving blackberry a velvety, slightly transparent quality rather than letting it shout as jam. The musk underneath keeps the whole thing rooted in skin rather than glass, so the scent reads as personal rather than projected.
The evolution
Blackberry opens first and brightest, sweet with that tart edge real bramble fruit carries, not candy-sweet but sun-warmed. The Iso E Super wraps it almost immediately, lending a cedarish warmth that softens the fruit into something atmospheric rather than edible. Five minutes in, the opening has already dissolved into a haze. The heart settles into a musk-fruited stillness. Blackberry stays present but recedes, and the Iso E Super steps forward, woody and almost mineral. An hour in, the composition has become one continuous texture, smooth, slightly powdery, warm without being heavy. The interaction between the two leads is unusually fluid, with the Iso E Super never fully eclipsing the fruit and the blackberry never breaking free of the woody envelope. You catch glimpses of each through the other, fruit glimpsed through gauze, wood glimpsed through sweetness.
Cultural impact
As part of Yves Rocher's annual Telethon series, Telethon 96 Mûre Sauvage belongs to a tradition of limited-edition collector's bottles tied to charitable fundraising, where each year a single botanical theme anchors the release. The approach favors a tight annual window of availability, giving it the feel of an object released in a specific year rather than a permanent catalog addition. Collectors track the series release by release, with each year's bottle and theme becoming a marker in a personal archive.
