The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In the garden of Via dei Mille there was a pomegranate tree. Autumn afternoons under a red and golden sky, children making pipes from its smallest fruits, unknowingly intoxicated by the essence of those mysterious red beans. From a courtyard game in Noto, the fragrance travels to the center of Sicily, to the sanctuary of the goddess Kore in Enna. There, in the brotherhood of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, something unexpected was found. Kore Sacra narrates this surprising intertwining, the pomegranate, the myth, the embroidered hearts, the heart of Sicily, magic and devotion, past and rebirth, collapsed into one bottle by Nathalie Koobus.
The perfumer found her structure in paradox. Incense carries memory and ritual, frankincense burned in churches for centuries, Palo Santo used in South American ceremony. These are materials with weight. Into that sacred gravity she introduced pomegranate's red fruit sweetness, a note that doesn't announce itself but shifts the tone entirely. The citrus top notes (bergamot, lemon) arrive and recede quickly, leaving the woody-resinous core to do the real work. What remains close to the skin for hours is benzoin's warm amber undertone and the meditative stillness of the drydown, the scent of something sacred without being solemn.
The evolution
The opening arrives camphor-sharp and sweet at once, candied citrus, small grains of sugar melting, palo santo's warmth already emerging beneath. Bergamot keeps it bright for the first act. Then frankincense takes over. Resinous, woody, monastic, the kind of smell that fills a stone room without filling a room. The rose and pomegranate do quiet work here, adding a soft red quality that prevents austerity. Benzoin smooths the transition into the base, where palo santo and incense converge into a meditative warmth that stays close and personal for hours. The drydown is intimate, present to the wearer, moderate to everyone else.
Cultural impact
Kore Sacra is a statement within the VIA DEI MILLE SICILIA catalogue, a fragrance that takes the brand's interest in Sicilian cultural paradox and applies it to sacred territory. The incense-woody structure places it among niche fragrances that reject convention in favor of contemplative depth. It appeals to wearers who find meaning in materials with ritual weight.
