The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Origin collection is Tous asking a simple question: where does your story begin? Oh! The Origin was crafted as an entry point, not a debut, but an invitation. Perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui built the composition around accessibility without compromise, creating something that opens bright and ends warm. The exclamation in the name says it all: spontaneous, joyful, the kind of yes that doesn't need deliberation.
What Bijaoui does here is clever. The top trio, green mandarin, dog rose, pear, shares a certain green, dewy quality. They're not competing; they're harmonizing around freshness. Then the heart introduces Turkish rose and cedar, which together create something quieter and more grounded than a standard floral. The base is where the craft shows: iris and benzoin don't just add depth, they change the texture entirely, turning a bright opening into something that feels worn and personal by the end.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes are all green mandarin and pear, crisp, almost dewy. The dog rose adds a wild edge that keeps it from smelling like generic fruit. Then the mandarin fades and cedar takes over, and suddenly you're in a different place: warmer, softer, with Turkish rose still hanging in the background. Around the two-hour mark, the vanilla and benzoin arrive. They don't explode, they seep. The iris adds its signature powder, and the whole thing settles into something close and intimate. On fabric, it lasts well past eight hours. On skin, it's still there the next morning, quieter but unmistakable.
Cultural impact
Tous emerged as a lifestyle brand through its jewelry heritage, expanding into accessible luxury fragrances during the 2000s. The Oh! The Origin EDT, released in 2020, represents the brand's continued commitment to democratizing fragrance rather than targeting exclusivity. In Spain and across European markets, Tous has cultivated a devoted following by positioning quality within reach of younger consumers entering the fragrance world. The Origin collection signals a return to the brand's roots, emphasizing personal expression over status signaling. This release arrives amid growing demand for approachable, versatile scents that transition seamlessly between casual and professional settings.
