The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Kaftan was created by Abderrahim Larhrissi and launched in 2024 with an inspiration drawn from the elegance of the caftan. The name points to a garment associated with intricate embroidery, flowing fabric, and decorative beauty, giving the composition its central idea: freshness placed beside richness. Citrus and fruity notes supply the first impression, while rose draws the scent toward the delicacy of floral ornament. Saffron, amber, and woody notes then build the deeper register, recalling the warmth and texture of fine fabric. The result is deliberately balanced for anyone, with brightness up front, floral elegance at its center, and a composed, warm finish. On skin, the opening feels vivid and polished, with citrus cutting through the fruitiness while rose adds a soft floral accent.
The interesting part is the contrast built into the note structure. Citrus and fruit keep the opening vivid rather than precious, while rose gives the composition a graceful Moroccan register without turning it into a simple floral scent. Saffron adds a metallic, spicy edge, and the broader woody and earthy accords bring a dry, mineral depth beneath the sweetness of amber. The fruit isn't there to read as dessert. It behaves like brightness on fabric, while the woods provide the structure that keeps the composition grounded. The interplay is especially clear as the fragrance sits on skin.
The evolution
Kaftan begins with a brisk citrus-fruity lift, the sort of brightness that catches attention before it settles into the wearer. The rose arrives next, moving the scent from fresh and lively toward floral and polished. It isn't a powdery handoff; rose here brings sweetness, spice, and a soft metallic glint that feels especially close to the fabric reference in the name. Saffron sharpens the middle, while amber and the woody notes establish warmth beneath it. As the hours pass, the composition becomes clearer and more layered, leaving a dry, woody trail with amber lingering close to skin. Expect the bright opening to give way to a warmer heart, with the final hours carrying the scent's most distinctive edge: saffron, rose, and richly textured woods. The trail remains expressive through much of the wear, settling into an intimate amber-woody finish.
Cultural impact
Kaftan draws its name and inspiration from the caftan, with citrus and fruit creating a lively opening around rose, saffron, amber, and woody accords. The result is layered but balanced, moving from brightness and floral softness to a warm, dry finish. Its appeal lies in the way the name and composition meet: the garment's flowing lines and intricate decoration are reflected in a fragrance that is polished, tactile, and richly detailed. Citrus and fruit introduce freshness, rose adds elegance, saffron contributes a metallic spice, and amber and woods create depth without overwhelming the earlier notes.
