The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jood was launched in 2022 by Abderrahim Larhrissi for Morocco's The House of Miraj. The fragrance is described as a special project built around natural Moroccan dates, paired with dark and sweet aromatic notes. Its composition places saffron and white oud at the heart, where a bouquet of bright white flowers meets Indian jasmine. Amber and musk complete the central register, giving the date accord warmth and polish. The date note brings a rounded sweetness that develops alongside the floral heart, while saffron adds a clean, gently spiced edge. As the composition settles, white oud lends depth and amber gives the blend a warm, resinous character, all softened by musk.
The interesting part of Jood is the contrast built around Moroccan date. Dates bring a natural sweetness with a darker, almost leathery depth. Saffron pushes that sweetness into warm spice, while white oud gives it a woody, polished edge. Indian jasmine and white flowers add light and brightness instead of heavy opulence. Amber and musk then settle the composition into a warm, rounded base. Nothing here feels accidental: the notes move between sweet, spicy, floral, woody, and soft leather tones, creating a scent that can shift with the wearer rather than sitting in one neat category.
The evolution
Jood begins with a bright, white-floral impression and a clean saffron edge. The character then warms as Moroccan dates and jasmine become more apparent, bringing sweetness and a soft floral lift. White oud and amber deepen the center, giving the composition a polished, slightly leathery body rather than a simple sugar rush. In the drydown, musk becomes the lasting hand-off, smoothing the sharper spice and leaving a close, warm trail. The final effect is a blend of date sweetness, ambered warmth, and soft musk, with the saffron and oud still hanging around the edges. Over time, the opening brightness gives way to a warmer floral and spicy center. The dates remain rounded and sweet, jasmine adds a creamy floral layer, and saffron continues to register as a slender aromatic accent.
Cultural impact
Jood takes the Moroccan date note as its regional point of departure, then builds a wider aromatic language around it. Jasmine, saffron, white oud, amber, and musk each add distinct layers: jasmine brings a floral sweetness, saffron a clean spice, white oud a deeper woody character, amber a warm resinous glow, and musk a smooth finish. Together, they show how a recognizably Moroccan ingredient can interact with a varied note structure, creating a fragrance that balances dark and sweet aromatic notes. The appeal lies in this layered composition, especially for wearers drawn to dates, warm spices, soft florals, polished woods, and amber.
