The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Sunlit Jasmine Lemon for The Dua Brand in 2026. The composition pairs the clarity of citrus with the lift of neroli, then anchors those bright top notes with a rooted base. Bergamot and bitter orange form the opening handshake, sharp and lifted in their expression. Petitgrain and lemon carry that brightness forward, giving the top its green-edged snap. The composition lives inside The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line that brings together different scent profiles under one roof. This particular expression leans into white florals and aromatic herbs rather than heavier resins, building a daytime composition with clear structural intent.
What makes the structure interesting is the balance between two different green languages. Petitgrain, basil, and rosemary read as aromatic, the kind of herbal presence that brings warmth and a slightly camphorated edge to the composition. Oakmoss and patchouli in the base pull in the other direction, toward something deeper and more earthen, a mossy dampness that grounds the whole structure. Jasmine and neroli sit between them, providing the floral lift that prevents the whole thing from collapsing into an all-herbal composition.
The evolution
The opening hits with immediate clarity. Lemon and bergamot arrive bright and almost bitter, with petitgrain already pulling the citrus toward something leafy and raw in those first moments. There's a sharpness here that some wearers will notice as a crisp, clean lift. As the initial brightness softens, the citrus gradually loses its edge and begins to mellow. Jasmine arrives, but it doesn't announce itself with any dramatic flourish. It moves in alongside neroli, and the composition shifts from sharp to luminous, almost dewy in its newfound softness. The herbs settle here, basil and rosemary becoming background texture rather than foreground character, and they do so quietly, almost like a whispered conversation happening just below the surface of the louder notes. Two hours in, the base has fully taken over.
Cultural impact
Sunlit Jasmine Lemon, a 2026 release within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, brings together a combination of notes that gives the composition a particular kind of structural integrity. The green backbone, built from oakmoss and patchouli rather than the more common white musk drydown found in many citrus fragrances, lends the composition a grounded quality that holds up as the top notes fade. That mossy base gives it a persistence and depth that elevates it beyond a simple lemon-forward summer scent.
