The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pomme Trempée On The Rocks arrived in 2021 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line of fragrances from the house. This one draws from Kilian's Apple Brandy On The Rocks, a boozy composition that leans on fruit and wood for its central character. The Dua Brand's reading of the source material places the apple more front-and-center, giving the fruit a leading position in the structure. It's a study in how a familiar composition can be re-orchestrated rather than copied, louder in one register, quieter in another, the architecture intact but the emphasis shifted in a way that makes the final result its own thing.
The brilliance of this composition lives in the tension between crispness and warmth. Green apple and pineapple keep the top bright, almost sharp, while brandy and rum pour weight into the heart. Cardamom threads through the middle, giving the boozy sweetness a faint peppery edge that keeps it from sliding into dessert territory. Cedar and ambroxan hold the base together, woody enough to ground the sugar but not so dry that the fruit loses its grip. The accord system reads warm spicy and fruity in equal measure, which is the trick: it never fully commits to being a gourmand, and it never pretends to be a clean fruity floral either. It lives in the overlap.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all fruit, green apple up front with pineapple close behind, the kind of sweetness that catches light. Brandy shows up early, not as a base note but as a presence in the opening minutes, warming the fruit from underneath. By the one-hour mark the rum has settled in alongside the brandy, the boozy sweetness now louder than the fruit, and cardamom starts adding a slow flicker of spice. The pineapple recedes first, the apple holds longer, and by hour three the composition has gone fully warm. Vanilla and cedar take over, the sugar now woodsy and close, ambroxan adding a skin-warm saltiness that keeps the drydown from going flat. The transition from the bright, almost tropical opening into the deeper, oak-toned heart of the fragrance is gradual enough to follow in real time, each note stepping forward and then back, the composition never sitting still.
Cultural impact
Within The Dua Brand's catalog, Pomme Trempée On The Rocks is a composition that wears its influences openly while still feeling like its own thing, a boozy, fruit-forward scent that takes the warmth of apple brandy and rum and builds a full composition around it. The fragrance has earned attention from reviewers, with one Parfumo critic naming it among the most accurate in the line, praising the boozy apple brandy character and the way the rum and cardamom deepen the base. Wearers tend to be people who already know what they like and don't need to be sold on the idea of wearing something boozy and warm.
