The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Playful Chocolate Delight arrived in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a series built around reconstructed interpretations of well-known scent profiles. The brand has built its catalog with this release as a clear example, offering a gourmand composition that pulls no punches about what it wants to be. The nose behind it is Mahsam Raza himself, working within a gourmand register that suits a fragrance called Playful Chocolate Delight. Named for exactly what it delivers, the fragrance skips subtlety in favor of something more direct: chocolate, yes, but framed with the fruit and spice that give it shape rather than letting it collapse into pure sweetness.
What makes this composition worth a second look is how the plum and apple opening doesn't behave like a typical fruity top. The cardamom pushes the fruit sideways into something spiced rather than jammy, and the rum underneath adds a boozy warmth that keeps the sweetness from going flat. Heliotrope in the heart is an interesting choice, it brings a powdery almond note that bridges the chocolate and the vanilla without making either one too literal.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are loud. Plum and rum open together, glossy and almost wet, with the apple adding brightness that cuts through the richness. Cardamom hums underneath, not sharp, more like the warmth of spice that's been sitting in something sweet long enough to soften. Chocolate arrives around the fifteen-minute mark, and that's when the composition finds its center, a dark, creamy cocoa note that feels baked rather than raw. The vanilla and heliotrope come in close behind, wrapping the chocolate in a powdery almond softness that keeps it from feeling heavy. Ambroxan lifts the whole thing slightly, adding a clean amber shimmer that prevents the gourmand from suffocating. By the two-hour mark, the fruit and spice have mostly stepped back. What remains is a warm blur of vanilla, soft musk, and a faint trace of chocolate still clinging to skin.
Cultural impact
Playful Chocolate Delight arrived in 2024, a year that saw continued appetite for dessert-coded fragrances across the market. The composition leans into that demand with a chocolate accord anchored by plum, rum, cardamom, and a powdery heliotrope heart, giving it a visual language that reads as warm, spiced, and indulgent. The opening's fruit-and-rum combination evokes cocktail territory, while the chocolate and vanilla base brings it firmly back into dessert.
