The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Magnetic Cherry arrived in 2026 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, with Mahsam Raza credited as the nose behind the composition. Raza's work for the house draws on a clear appreciation for how fragrance is constructed, and Magnetic Cherry marks another entry in that ongoing conversation, a cherry-forward composition that doesn't apologize for its darkness. The name says it plainly: this isn't shy stone fruit. It pulls you in, the way something magnetic does, without asking permission. On skin, the opening is immediate and unapologetic: black cherry spills forward, soaked through with orange brandy, the boozy edge sharp and alive before anything else has a chance to settle.
What sets this composition apart is the collision between gourmand sweetness and smoky, almost animalic depth. Most cherry fragrances lean either clean and bright or sticky and synthetic. Magnetic Cherry threads a third path, dropping dark stone fruit into a base of ebony wood, warm caramel, and leather, letting the boozy orange brandy opening bridge fruit and fire. The red freesia and jasmine in the heart keep it from tipping purely gourmand, adding a cool floral tension that makes the whole thing feel deliberate rather than sugary. It's a study in controlled contrast.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are the loudest statement: black cherry and orange brandy arrive almost simultaneously, juicy and spiked, a cocktail poured over crushed fruit. There's no gentle ramp-up here. Within 30 minutes, red freesia and jasmine take over, cooling the heat slightly while plum deepens the fruit into something richer, almost jammy. The sugar weaves in underneath, not sharp, more like a simmer. By the two-hour mark, the leather and ebony wood have moved to the front, the cherry still present but darker, more smoked than sweet. The caramel anchors everything, warm and slightly burnt, never cloying. The drydown at hour four and beyond settles into close-skin territory, the leather dominant, the fruit a whisper, a trace of that boozy warmth still detectable on a scarf or collar the next morning.
Cultural impact
Magnetic Cherry lands in the gourmand territory with both feet, the kind of composition that puts black cherry at the center of every decision and lets the supporting notes fall in line behind it. The black cherry note is dark, almost liquefied, paired with orange zest that lifts the top into something brighter and more biting before the brandy facet settles in and warms the entire structure. The result reads like a late-night glass of something poured slowly, fruit-heavy and unfiltered, with enough weight to feel substantial rather than fleeting.
