The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Orissima Divine arrived in 2019 from Jérôme Di Marino, the nose behind this Ted Lapidus release. The name suggests something elevated, a floral composition pushed toward something more assertive, more divine in the classical sense. Di Marino worked with a powdery-oriental structure as his foundation: neroli and mandarin opening the composition, jasmine and orange blossom forming the heart, vanilla and patchouli anchoring the drydown. The citrus brightness of the opening provides an immediate shimmer, almost luminous in its clarity. Neroli brings a bittersweet floral quality that softens the mandarin's edge, while the mandarin itself adds juicy sweetness that keeps the top notes from feeling too austere.
What makes this structure interesting is the patchouli. It provides depth and a slightly earthy counterweight to the sweetness. White florals can become airless, overwhelming things. The patchouli keeps Orissima Divine grounded. It doesn't let the jasmine and orange blossom float away entirely. Instead, it creates a subtle gravitational pull that keeps the composition cohesive as it develops. The vanilla amplifies the warmth, its sweet creaminess binding with the florals above while responding to the earthy base below.
The evolution
The opening is immediate, neroli and mandarin arriving together, bright and citrusy. The neroli brings its characteristic bitter-floral character while the mandarin contributes juicy sweetness, creating an effervescent quality at the top of the composition. As the initial burst settles, the jasmine begins to assert itself, emerging gradually from behind the citrus curtain. By the time you've moved through the heart of the wear, you're fully in white floral territory: jasmine and orange blossom blending into something heady but not indolic. The orange blossom adds a honeyed dimension that sweetens the jasmine without making the florals feel cloying. The vanilla starts to build underneath, sweetening the florals and adding a creamy warmth that suggests gourmand territory without fully arriving there.
Cultural impact
Orissima Divine arrived in 2019 as part of the Ted Lapidus collection, representing a modern feminine fragrance that draws from the house's heritage while speaking to contemporary sensibilities. The compact white floral-oriental structure offers a sophisticated balance between different scent families. The neroli-mandarin opening provides fresh, bright qualities that create immediate appeal, while the vanilla-patchouli base delivers warmth and depth that develops over time. This combination of fresh and warm elements creates a fragrance with nuanced character, offering multiple dimensions to explore throughout the wear.
