The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Isra & Miraj takes its name from one of the most significant events in Islamic tradition: the night journey of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem, followed by the ascension through the seven heavens. Stéphane Humbert Lucas, the artist-perfumer behind the 777 house, designed this fragrance to mark the seventh anniversary of the collection, a numerological milestone that ties directly into the brand's recurring motif of seven. The fragrance translates the concept of a spiritual night journey into olfactory form, the initial brightness of departure giving way to something deeper, more contemplative, as the wearer moves through the hours. It's orientalism reframed as inner exploration, with the ascension narrative providing both the structure and the ambition.
The heart of this fragrance lives in the tension between powdery sweetness and oriental depth. Heliotrope is rarely the lead in a composition this bold, it typically plays supporting roles, adding softness to florals or tempering spice. Here, Stéphane Humbert Lucas builds around it, letting heliotrope's almond-powder character anchor the fragrance while osmanthus absolute contributes a plum-jam richness that feels almost edible. The spice selection, Ceylon cinnamon and nutmeg, skews warm rather than sharp, giving the opening heat without aggression. What makes this composition distinctive is how the oriental base doesn't arrive all at once.
The evolution
The opening announces itself in bright citrus and spice, mandarin orange cutting through Ceylon cinnamon and nutmeg for roughly 20 minutes before the citrus fades. Then the heart takes over: heliotrope's powdery bloom, osmanthus adding a honeyed sweetness beneath. The heart reads warm, almost edible, the kind of warmth that wraps rather than announces. Two to three hours in, the base begins its slow arrival. Mysore sandalwood, warm amber, and a whisper of oud. Leather appears quietly, present without demanding attention. White musk keeps the drydown close to skin, intimate rather than projecting. On fabric, it lingers into the next morning, that 8-10 hour longevity showing up most clearly in the drydown rather than the initial sillage. The projection moderates after the first couple hours, but the scent doesn't disappear.
Cultural impact
Isra & Miraj occupies a specific space among oriental fragrances, warm enough to satisfy fans of the genre, but with a powdery softness uncommon in its intensity. Wearers gravitate toward it for evening wear and cooler seasons, drawn by the heliotrope-vanilla heart that differentiates it from more traditionally woody orientals. The fragrance performs consistently across skin types, with longevity cited as a primary strength.
