Why it exists.
The beginning
Owl Spirit is one of five fragrances that launched Simone Paris in 2024, each built around a different animal totem from the spirit world. The brand was conceived by Simone Eisenbeiss, who designs the bottles, and Michael Förster, who composes the scents, a dual-creative structure that gives every release a visual and olfactory identity from the start. Owl Spirit was Förster's composition for the owl, a nocturnal creature whose presence carries its own quiet weight. The fragrance opens with a bright burst of citrus and warm spice that gives it immediate accessibility, a kind of first-impression energy that doesn't ask the wearer to wait for the good part. Underneath that brightness sits a floral heart and a creamy base, and the layering rewards patience.
The opening is deliberately generous. Blood orange, tangerine, and pink pepper create a brightness that reads almost fizzy at first contact, then cardamom from Guatemala pulls the temperature up before the florals arrive. Ylang-ylang brings a tropical creaminess, violet leaf absolute keeps things slightly green and aqueous, and rose grounds the heart with something recognizable. Sandalwood and patchouli give the base its structure, while vanilla adds the kind of warmth that makes a fragrance feel lived-in rather than just applied.
The evolution
The opening minutes belong to the citrus. Blood orange and tangerine do most of the talking, bright and immediate, while cardamom builds underneath like a low flame warming the edges. As the citrus steps back, the pink pepper comes forward, adding a gentle warmth that sits on skin without burning. The ylang-ylang and rose arrive in the heart, and the whole composition shifts from spicy-fresh to something rounder, almost golden. Violet leaf keeps a cool current running through the middle, which prevents the florals from going syrupy. Eventually the sandalwood and vanilla take over, and what remains is a soft, warm, slightly sweet drydown that stays close to skin for the rest of the wear, fading gradually rather than vanishing. The transition from bright top notes to creamy base happens slowly enough that each phase gets its own moment in the sun.

Simone Paris's five-spirit lineup is a distinctive move within the niche perfume landscape, building an entire brand identity around animal archetypes rather than the more common floral or gourmand naming conventions. Each fragrance in the collection draws from a different spirit animal, giving the house a coherent mythology that runs across all five releases.
