The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Paradiso Azzurro launched in 2016 as a new chapter in the Paradiso story, same Mediterranean concept, different light. The name pulls from coastal imagery, reinforced by a turquoise diamond-shaped bottle designed by Eva Maria Duringer. Louise Turner built the fragrance around this aquatic foundation, layering cypress and cashmere wood beneath a heart of wild jasmine, apple, and peach, anchored by Mediterranean citrus. The opening salvo is bright and effervescent, a sparkling citrus medley that immediately signals warmth and openness. As the top notes recede, the jasmine emerges with a creamy, indolic richness that feels sun-drenched rather than delicate.
The composition is a marine-florals-aromatic hybrid. Lavender at the top provides green, camphor-like character alongside the citrus, an unexpected counterweight to the aquatic heart. Wild jasmine and rose bring a floralcy that feels both cool and sun-warmed. Apple and peach add crisp fruitiness, while tuberose brings a creamy, slightly indolic richness that keeps the heart from feeling too light. The drydown, cypress, cashmere wood, sandalwood, amberwood, creates a warm, woody base that balances the aquatic freshness. Cashmere wood in particular adds a soft, almost skin-like quality that makes the drydown feel intimate rather than linear.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, lavender and bergamot with a citrus brightness that reads like the first hour of sunlight on coastal air. Tangerine adds a soft sweetness that keeps it from sharpening. The heart arrives with aquatic notes lifting the jasmine and rose, creating a sea-mist effect that's cool, fresh, and surprisingly warm. Apple and peach give a fruitiness that feels sun-ripened rather than synthetic. The drydown takes its time before the woody base fully arrives. Cypress and cashmere wood settle close to the skin, sandalwood and amberwood add creaminess, and vanilla provides a sweet warmth that lingers for hours after. The composition develops gradually, with each layer revealing itself in sequence rather than all at once. The citrus brightness of the opening softens into the cool florals of the heart, which then deepens into a warm, creamy base that extends the wear.
Cultural impact
The Roberto Cavalli fragrance line has expanded beyond its bold fashion-house origins, with Paradiso Azzurro taking a Mediterranean coastal direction rather than the brand's typical theatricality. The aquatic-floral direction suits warm-weather wear and casual daytime settings, offering a different character within the house's broader range. It's a fragrance that feels suited to outdoor gatherings, beach outings, and relaxed social occasions where the emphasis is on ease rather than intensity.
