The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Angelica Root accord is the ninth in Raer's numbered series, following the house's established pattern of focusing each release on a single botanical. Stefan Kehl built the fragrance around the root's dual nature, green and bitter above ground, earthy and deep below, and paired it with ingredients that amplify that tension: the bright, almost medicinal quality of juniper and the quiet weight of French oakmoss. The Gin & Tonic opening was a deliberate choice: a recognizable sensory moment that gives way to something stranger and more specific. It's a fragrance that asks you to follow it.
What makes Angelica Root unusual is how it uses a bitter note as a feature, not a flaw. Where most fragrances soften or sweeten their green edges, this one lets the angelica root lead without apology, its slightly metallic, herbaceous quality cutting through the citrus and pine. The result is a scent that smells less like perfume and more like atmosphere: the air after rain, the moment a forest goes quiet. It's the kind of composition that rewards attention, shifting on your skin as the hours pass.
The evolution
The first minutes belong to Calabrian lemon and juniper berry, bright, almost effervescent, like the first sip of a G&T. Then the angelica root arrives. Green. Slightly bitter. The Swiss stone pine follows, adding a smoky conifer note that grounds the brightness. By hour two, the French oakmoss and labdanum have taken hold, earthy, resinous, close to the skin. The drydown lingers for 6-8 hours on most skin types, with the myrrh and ambrette seed adding a quiet warmth that doesn't announce itself. You'll still catch it on your sleeve the next morning.
Cultural impact
As part of Raer's numbered Accord series, Angelica Root occupies a specific space in the niche fragrance landscape, for the wearer who finds mainstream compositions too safe and wants something that earns its complexity. The botanical integrity and limited-edition model attract those who value craft over branding, placing the fragrance among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate compositions built around a single, uncompromising idea.
