The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Raer 03 Ambre + Sandalwood emerged from the Berlin atelier of Raer Scents in 2024, created by perfumers Ted Rohn and Amber Ritchie. Building on the house's 2017 heritage of 100% botanical, limited-edition perfume drops, the duo sought to honor the classic pairing of amber and Mysore sandalwood while pushing beyond convention by introducing darker, more complex botanical elements into the blend.
The decision to omit a separate opening phase reflects the house philosophy of botanical authenticity. Rather than constructing an artificial citrus or aldehyde prelude, Raer allows the fragrance to speak from its core. Amber and sandalwood form the natural axis around which black elder, rose, and Peru balsam orbit, creating a composition where warmth and woodiness remain the constants while floral and fruity nuances shift with the wearer's skin chemistry.
The evolution
The fragrance begins its journey immediately in the heart phase, with amber and Peru balsam arriving together in a warm, resinous wave. Magnolia leaf adds a brief, green brightness before black elder and rose introduce a quiet, dark fruity-floral dimension. As the composition evolves, sandalwood emerges as a creamy counterpoint while wood resin anchors the blend. The progression unfolds organically, with each botanical element revealing itself in relation to the others rather than in sharp sequence.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 launch, Raer 03 Ambre + Sandalwood has found a niche among Berlin’s minimalist fashion crowd, praised for its clean botanical integrity and subtle sensuality. Wearers often describe it as the scent of a quiet evening walk through a city park, a quiet confidence that doesn’t demand attention yet leaves a memorable trace.
