The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Million Gold line gets its most floral chapter yet. Rabanne's creative team decided the collection needed something that leaned into the feminine heart of what gold represents, warmth, radiance, an almost reverent sensuality. Pure jasmine became the vehicle: not a subtle supporting note, but the entire argument. Four perfumers, Aliénor Massenet, Suzy Le Helley, Nathalie Benareau, and Loc Dong, collaborated on a composition that makes no apologies for centering white and yellow florals. The 2025 launch brings the Million Gold franchise to its most intimate expression yet, translating the house's architectural sensibility into something that breathes rather than stands.
What makes this structure interesting is the way the aldehydic quality threads through the jasmine rather than sitting on top. Aldehydes are having a moment again, but here they don't announce themselves, they lift the floral heart, giving it sparkle and a slightly retro warmth that distinguishes this from contemporary fruity-florals. The ylang-ylang in the base does the important work of bridging the heady jasmine to something creamier, almost balmy. Solar notes as a named base accord is a Rabanne signature move, they've used that language before, and it signals warmth without gourmand sweetness.
The evolution
The mandarin opens bright and citrusy, but it's gone in under ten minutes, just enough time to clear the path for jasmine to claim the stage. The jasmine doesn't rush. It unfolds slowly, releasing that heady, slightly indolic sweetness that makes real jasmine so compelling. Around the thirty-minute mark, the ylang-ylang begins to soften the edges, adding a creamy undercurrent that makes the composition feel warmer, more intimate. By hour two, you're in the drydown: a lingering blend of solar warmth and residual floral that stays close to the skin for the remaining hours. On fabric, expect it to announce itself for a full day.
Cultural impact
The Million Gold line has positioned itself as Rabanne's modern feminine anchor, a collection that balances wearable florals with the house's signature edge. With Pure Jasmine, the brand leans fully into the white floral tradition while maintaining that architectural sensibility that defines the house.
