The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Red Queen Citrusy Blossom arrived in 2019 as part of Pupa's Red Queen collection, a range of fragrances built around floral profiles that lean translucent rather than dense. Pupa, known primarily for its color-saturated cosmetics, had built a fragrance arm over the years, and the Red Queen lineup marked one of its more atmospheric offerings. Citrusy Blossom sits firmly inside the citrusy-floral family, but its handling of lily and orange blossom gives it a cool, water-light quality unusual for the category. There's an editorial restraint here that feels intentional: the florals don't shout, the citrus doesn't sparkle aggressively, and the whole thing reads like a garden seen through frosted glass rather than a bouquet pressed against your nose.
What makes the composition worth a closer look is the cactus juice note sitting at the heart, a material usually associated with hydration rather than perfumery. It gives the fragrance a wet, almost mineral coolness that keeps the Casablanca lily and ylang-ylang from tipping into sweetness. There's something almost glistening about the way the cactus juice behaves alongside the florals, like dew still sitting on a petal hours after sunrise.
The evolution
The opening belongs to bergamot, sharp and almost effervescent, with orange blossom curling underneath like a warm breath. Tea leaf arrives quickly, giving the opening a dry, almost steeped quality that keeps it from feeling like a typical floral. The cactus juice starts cooling the blend, adding a slick, watery texture that makes the Casablanca lily smell less like a flower and more like the idea of one, translucent, slightly distant. Ylang-ylang warms the edges without ever pushing the composition into tropical territory, offering a soft golden contrast to the cooler notes around it. As the hours pass, the white musk settles into a soft second skin, while the sandalwood and cedar create a quiet, woody floor that holds steady through the late afternoon. On fabric the following day, what remains is mostly the musk and a faint trace of sandalwood, a whisper rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
Red Queen Citrusy Blossom arrived in 2019 as part of Pupa's Red Queen collection, a line that expanded the house's fragrance presence with a more floral, atmospheric direction. Its combination of bergamot, orange blossom, and tea leaf gives it a garden-fresh profile that reads easily across contexts: light enough for daytime, soft enough for layering, and translucent enough to work in warm weather. The cactus juice note at the heart separates it from more conventional citrus-florals, adding a watery coolness that nudges the composition away from syrupy sweetness and toward something more mineral and modern.
