The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eve arrived in 2011 as a fragrance built around a tension: the crisp brightness of grapefruit and blackcurrant buds at the opening, and the quiet warmth of cashmere wood and patchouli in the base. The name isn't incidental. Eve speaks to a kind of self-assurance that doesn't need to announce itself. Olivier Polge crafted the scent with careful attention to how each note interacts, delivering something that feels inevitable rather than designed. The opening is bright and tart, citrus-forward with a subtle berry quality from the blackcurrant. As it develops, the florals emerge gradually, settling into the heart with a natural ease. The base anchors everything in soft, enveloping warmth that lingers close to the skin.
The cashmere wood note is soft without being sweet, warm without being heavy. Combined with Indonesian patchouli, it creates a base that feels like wearing something expensive without being obvious about it. The chypre structure brings a fruity-floral top over a woody-patchouli base, a framework that allows for modern, restrained execution. The wild rose and jasmine don't compete; they breathe alongside the fruits, creating a heart that feels organic rather than constructed.
The evolution
The opening is bright and tart, grapefruit blossom lifting the senses while blackcurrant bud adds a slight berry tartness beneath. Then the florals take over. Wild rose, violet, jasmine: they don't arrive all at once. They layer in, each one settling over the last like fabric. The jasmine arrives later in the development, giving the heart a quiet warmth. As the top notes fade, the cashmere wood and patchouli emerge to anchor the composition. The drydown is intimate, staying close to the skin as a soft woody warmth that carries the fragrance into its final hours. The overall trajectory moves from crisp brightness through layered florals to a warm, lingering base.
Cultural impact
Eve appeals to those who appreciate the brand's approach to design. Its composition offers a more restrained alternative to louder floral scents, attracting individuals who find overly bold fragrances overwhelming. The scent stays close to the skin, offering a quiet presence that remains after the wearer has moved on. Compared to contemporaries with stronger projections, Eve occupies a more subtle corner of the market, appreciated by those who value discretion and refinement over announcement.
