The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Precious Liquid, founded in France in 2015, merges a model minimalist aesthetic with perfumer Richard Herpin French expertise to create Intimate, single-impression scents. When Herpin set out to capture the essence of a pine-laden walk that suddenly opens into a hidden grove of ancient trees, he found the contrast he needed in the interplay between aromatic juniper and deep oud. Launched in 2023, Juniper Oud embodies the brands philosophy of isolating a single impression, this time the tension between a fresh, herbal character and the richness of smoky wood.
The pairing of juniper with oud is deliberate: one represents the airy, bright start of a forest path while the other embodies the deeper, older spirit of the grove itself. By placing these elements tog ether in the heart with no separating top layer, the fragrance forces an immediate confrontation between freshness and depth. The supporting notes enhance this tension. Pink pepper brings a subtle spice that bridges the two worlds while birch adds a smoky quality that complements the oud rather than competing with it. Chamomile introduces a quiet softness that prevents either side from dominating. The result is a scent that feels cohesive rather than torn between opposites.
The evolution
Juniper Oud makes an immediate entrance. There is no top phase to wait through. Juniper berries and pink pepper arrive tog ether, sharp and bright, before the deeper notes begin their slow emergence. Within the first thirty minutes, cypriol and birch weave into the composition alongside the oud, adding layers of smoky resin and a subtle sweetness that balances the junipers sharpness. Cardamom and nutmeg introduce warmth while chamomile softens the overall impression, preventing the blend from becoming too austere. As the hours pass, the oud and cypriol take the foreground, but the juniper never fully retreats, maintaining its presence in the background like the memory of pine trees in a forest clearing.
Cultural impact
Since its 2023 debut, Juniper Oud has been noted for turning the traditionally heavy oud genre into a crisp, pepper‑spiced experience. Wearers often compare its clean juniper opening to Tom Ford’s Oud Wood, yet praise its greener, more aromatic drydown. It has found a niche among those who crave a fresh take on oud, becoming a quiet favorite in boutique circles and sparking conversation on social forums about its unexpected balance of forest freshness and smoky depth.
