The beginning
The Les Infusions collection takes a single ingredient and asks: what if we stripped it back? No embellishment, no amplification. Just the raw material, reconsidered. Infusion d'Ylang continues this philosophy with an ingredient that's typically anything but quiet. Ylang-ylang is tropical by nature, heady, almost overwhelming in its sweetness. Prada's version doesn't fight that character. It simply waits for it to appear on its own terms, the way sunlight moves through a tall window in the afternoon rather than blazing noon. Daniela Andrier composed this within the collection's minimalist framework: a small number of materials, precise placement, nothing extraneous.
The composition is built around a single axis: the ylang-ylang at its center. Everything else, the citrus brightening the opening, the spice threading through, the wood grounding the base, exists in service to it. What makes this version distinctive is its restraint. The ylang-ylang doesn't bloom so much as it surfaces, gradually, from underneath. You catch it in the drydown before you fully register it in the opening. It's the note that lingers closest to skin, pressed into a sleeve, still warm.
The evolution
The opening is bright. Citrus and cardamom, a clean spike that reads as almost medicinal before it softens. Bergamot does what bergamot always does: it makes everything around it feel polished. The cardamom adds a quiet heat, not spice the way pepper does, but warmth without fire. After some time, the ylang-ylang begins to surface. Not all at once. It rises like something being pulled from beneath the composition rather than placed on top of it. The scent shifts from clean to creamy, from sharp to warm. The tropical character appears, but it's been cooled and restrained, tropical without the sunscreen, floral without the soap. The drydown is where it earns its name. Sandalwood arrives last, settling low and close, the kind of base that lives against skin rather than projecting outward.
