The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Candy Gloss landed in 2017 as part of Prada's Candy collection. Where the original Candy went unapologetically sweet, Candy Gloss carved its own lane: a fruity sorbet. The fragrance opens with sour cherry, a bright and tart fruit note that grabs attention immediately. To balance that brightness, Daniela Andrier incorporated orange blossom, which brings a warm, solar quality that softens the tartness without diminishing it. The result is a fragrance that feels sweet but not cloying, bright but grounded. Cherry and citrus work together to create an effervescent, edible quality that feels glossy and inviting, a sensation of something sweet meeting something bright.
Blackcurrant, or cassis, isn't a default pairing with cherry. Together, they create a tartness that wakes the nose up, preventing the top from reading as purely confectionery. The heart of peach and rose softens the tartness just enough, but never buries it, letting that bright fruit energy carry through. By the drydown, heliotrope and benzoin create a warm marzipan effect, not quite edible, not quite floral, something that sits in the space between fruit and nut.
The evolution
The opening delivers sour cherry and blackcurrant hitting simultaneously, that sharp, tart jolt that commands attention. It announces itself with confidence. The blackcurrant gives the cherry a darker edge that stops it from reading as purely confectionery, adding dimension that keeps the top from feeling one-note. Soon the heart takes over. Orange blossom arrives warm and slightly bitter, softening the tartness without killing it, that bright opening giving way to something rounder. Peach adds body, fleshy and ripe sweetness that rounds the composition out, giving the fragrance weight in its middle stage. The rose is quiet, a whisper of florality that keeps the whole thing from leaning too far into gourmand territory. The drydown is where the marzipan effect emerges.
Cultural impact
Candy Gloss arrived in 2017 as part of Prada's Candy series, a collection known for its playful take on gourmand. The fragrance offers a fruity-gourmand profile that stays within the house's refined framework, sweet without becoming syrupy, fruity without overwhelming. It presents cherry and cassis at the top, softened by floral heart notes and grounded by a warm, nutty drydown that gives it enough complexity to reward close attention.
