The beginning
The story of Iris & Musc de Liberty begins with pH Fragrances' 2018 launch. Iris & Musc de Liberty took its name from Liberty fabric. Translating that fabric into scent required pairing cool, powdery iris with warm musk. The result is a fragrance that opens with a delicate aromatic quality, where green juniper and bright freesia lift the composition without ever reading as sharp or medicinal. Violet leaf threads through the top, adding a cool green facet that gives the opening its botanical depth. The iris itself arrives with a soft, almost violet-like coolness that forms the heart of the scent. It is powdery and refined, with a quality that reads as both cool and slightly furry, like the softest cashmere brushing against skin.
The Iris Orpur brought the powdery, violet-like coolness the composition needed. Juniper and freesia lifted the opening with an aromatic quality that kept the top from reading flat. Juniper added a green lift that reads almost as mineral, while freesia brought a bright, slightly sweet floral note that prevented the opening from feeling austere. Violet leaf added green depth beneath the iris, its cool, vegetable quality threading through the powdery coolness rather than standing apart from it.
The evolution
The opening is cool and aromatic. Juniper and freesia lift immediately, freesia bright, juniper adding a green lift that reads almost as mineral. Violet leaf appears briefly here, a cool green facet that fades fast but leaves its mark on the composition. Then the iris takes over. Powdery and cool, it softens everything it touches. The violet leaf becomes part of the iris, its green quality now part of the powdery coolness rather than separate from it. This is where the fragrance shifts. What seemed like a cool, fresh scent becomes something else entirely, warmer and more intimate without losing its refined character. The transition happens gradually, almost imperceptibly, as the iris settles into the skin and the musk base begins to make its presence known. Hours later, what remains is warm and intimate.
