The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pesade's 2025 chapter unfolds through Orris Cocoon, a fragrance that continues the house's ongoing dialogue between visual art and scent. Florian Gallo, working from the brief of translating a muted sunrise into aroma, made an unconventional choice: he eliminated the opening entirely. By building directly from the heart notes, Gallo created a composition that refuses to seduce gradually. Instead, it arrives with conviction.
The decision to begin with heart notes rather than traditional opening accords reflects Gallo's philosophy here: no false promises. Green tea and coriander provide freshness that iris alone cannot, preventing the composition from becoming a static powder study. Woody notes and vetiver offer structure, while leather introduces the tactile dimension that elevates this beyond purely floral interpretation. Every material in the heart serves the central concept: earthbound elegance with morning clarity.
The evolution
The absence of opening notes means Orris Cocoon makes its statement immediately. The iris root presents itself without preamble, joined seconds later by green tea's crispness and coriander's herbal bite. This immediacy is deliberate. As minutes pass, leather and vetiver emerge to broaden the composition, adding texture and earthiness. The green tea fades first, leaving coriander's spice to dance with the leather. Vetiver persists through the heart and into the drydown, eventually standing alone against the lingering powder of iris.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 release, Orris Cocoon has become a quiet favorite among fans of minimalist, art‑inspired scents. Wearers often describe it as the olfactory equivalent of a well‑balanced graphic layout, clean, restrained, yet with a hidden depth that invites second glances. It sits alongside Pesade’s other chapter pieces, reinforcing the house’s reputation for translating visual concepts into scent.
