The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
An Unseen arrived in 2023 as part of Pesade's second chapter, the house calls it Strange Odyssey. For founder Mok Young-kyo, each release is a curatorial statement, and this one asked a simple question: what if presence wasn't about volume? The name itself is the concept. Something barely there, felt before it's understood, noticed in the moment it disappears. Perfumer Kim Hwal worked with that tension, materials that arrive and dissolve, leaving only warmth.
The neroli here isn't the loud blossom you'd find in a citrus bomb. It's been asked to drift, to behave like mist rather than flower. Cashmeran does the real work: that synthetic molecule smells like cashmere pressed against warm skin, and here it's doing something unusual, it's making the florals feel physical, almost wearable in a way that purely natural compositions struggle to achieve. The oakmoss grounds the whole thing with a green that borders on atmospheric rather than grassy. This is restraint as technique.
The evolution
Pine opens first, not sharp, more like the memory of pine. Mandarin orange follows, brief and citrus-bright, before both recede and leave neroli standing alone. The transition is seamless. Around the 20-minute mark, petitgrain and heliotrope arrive to complicate things: one adds green-bitter, the other adds powder-warm. The drydown is where An Unseen earns its name. Cashmeran takes over, then musk, then a ghost of elemi. On fabric, it lingers for hours. On skin, it becomes intimate, the kind of scent someone notices only when they're close enough to matter.
Cultural impact
An Unseen has found its audience among those who appreciate fragrance as a conceptual exercise. In niche fragrance circles, Pesade is recognized for its minimalist approach, pieces that function more as artistic statements than mainstream perfumes. The house's presence in Harrods and Dover Street Market positions it alongside other concept-driven niche brands, appealing to a design-literate wearer who treats fragrance as a gallery piece.
