The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ta'if Elixir takes its name from the legendary Ta'if rose, a flower celebrated for its intensely rich and heady fragrance. Ormonde Jayne paired it with Cambodian oud, a resinous wood that brings a depth most other materials simply cannot achieve. This concentrated Elixir formulation represents the boldest interpretation of the Ta'if rose, amplified and unapologetic.
What makes Ta'if Elixir work is the tension between sweetness and darkness. Dates bring a natural caramel warmth; the oud brings resinous, almost smoky depth. They shouldn't balance, but in this composition they do, held together by amber's golden glue. The broom note in the base is unusual, adding a subtle herbal counterpoint that prevents the whole thing from becoming too heavy. It's the kind of odd ingredient choice that separates careful perfumery from formulaic execution.
The evolution
Saffron opens the composition with bright, slightly metallic facets before dates arrive with their sticky, jammy sweetness. The Ta'if rose emerges, floral and deep at once, quite unlike lighter rose varieties. By the second hour, the Cambodian oud takes command. This is where most compositions lose their way, the sweet notes retreat, the wood takes over. On fabric, it still whispers. Not gone. Just closer.
Cultural impact
Ta'if Elixir represents Ormonde Jayne's concentrated expression of the Ta'if rose, the celebrated Arabian flower featured in the house's signature blend. It sits comfortably in the niche-elegant category, bridging Arabian perfumery traditions with the brand's British precision. Worn most often in winter and fall, it suits evening occasions and date nights where presence matters.
