The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jardin Botanique is part of Ormonde Jayne's Jardin Collection, named for the concept rather than a specific garden. The opening pairs blackcurrant with bergamot, bright and tart, arriving with considerable energy before gracefully making way for what follows. Rose and jasmine form the heart, their presence deliberate and intertwined. There is a quiet depth underneath, something that holds the lighter notes without overpowering them. The result is a fragrance that invites closer attention.
The opening is fruity and spicy, blackcurrant, bergamot, black pepper, saffron, each note making its presence felt. Then the florals take over. Rose and jasmine soften the edges while a woody element keeps things grounded. The base features moss, patchouli, bourbon vanilla, musk, creating a cool, slightly damp foundation. This is a fragrance for cooler evenings, for moments when the air carries that particular green quality of growing things. Nothing shouts, but nothing disappears either.
The evolution
The opening arrives with blackcurrant and bergamot together, bright and tart, with black pepper adding texture. Saffron weaves through, lending a subtle metallic quality to the air. The florals arrive next. Rose and jasmine come forward together, neither dominant, both present and alive. The oud is here, subtle, not announcing itself but quietly informing the composition. Geranium grounds the florals, adding an herbal dimension that keeps everything balanced. This middle phase holds for several hours, textured and steady. The drydown brings moss and patchouli, green and earthy, with a coolness underneath. Bourbon vanilla wraps the base in warmth. Musk keeps the scent close to skin, lingering in a way that feels intimate and present.
Cultural impact
Available at Fortnum & Mason, Jardin Botanique opens bright and tart with citrus and spice before giving way to florals. The oud adds unexpected depth, a quality that has become a signature for Ormonde Jayne.
