The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oody Woody arrived in 2019 from Nabeel's Dubai workshop, composed by perfumer Asghar Adam Ali. The name itself is a hint, it frames the fragrance's central tension between the fruity sweetness at the top and the woody warmth underneath. Plum and strawberry open the composition with an immediacy that feels bright and inviting, while the heart of magnolia, rose, and jasmine softens the entry into something more familiar, more human. The base anchors everything in sandalwood, vanilla, and cedar, turning what could have been a simple fruity-floral into something with real staying power. The juxtaposition of bright fruit against a grounded woody foundation creates a fragrance that feels both playful and substantial, the kind of scent that invites you in before revealing its deeper layers.
What makes Oody Woody unusual is the sheer size of its base. Seven ingredients, sandalwood, vanilla, guaiac wood, white musk, patchouli, cedar, ambergris, layer together to form a foundation that doesn't just support the heart notes but actively shapes how they develop. The plum-strawberry opening doesn't compete with the floral heart the way it might in a lighter composition. Instead, the sweetness and the florals arrive together, settling into the woody base as a single impression rather than a sequence of phases.
The evolution
The opening is bright, plum and strawberry announce themselves with an immediacy that feels inviting. The fruit lingers before the florals begin to rise, softening the entry into something more nuanced. Magnolia arrives with a creamy presence, while rose and jasmine blend with lily of the valley to form the heart. The floral middle is the longest phase, a creamy presence that gives way gradually as the drydown asserts itself. The sandalwood, vanilla, and white musk create a warm, close-to-skin creaminess that guaiac wood and cedar round out with a gentle woodiness. Patchouli keeps the earthiness honest throughout the wear, grounding the sweeter elements as the fragrance settles. The ambergris adds a faint trace that lingers at the edges, subtle and animalic, present in the final hours.
Cultural impact
Oody Woody sits comfortably in the sweet-fruity-woody space that appeals broadly across the Gulf market. The fragrance delivers both depth and longevity without the oud-forward heaviness that defines some of the brand's other releases, making it distinctive within the house's range. The Nabeel quality signature is present here, the signature richness and staying power that collectors recognize, but presented in a more approachable register. It's a fragrance that balances the house's traditional strengths with a lighter touch, appealing to those who want substance without weight.
