Bois sits inside Nabeel's Souq Collection, a line drawn from the house's longstanding experience with Arabian perfumery oil compositions. The composition is the work of Asghar Adam Ali, who served as the perfumer on this project, blending bright citrus with dry wood in a direction that feels clean and deliberate. The grapefruit cuts first, sharp and almost tart, then softens quickly as the woods rise underneath, giving the opening an easy brightness rather than a dense one. As it settles, the dry wood note takes on a slightly warm, papery quality, like sandalwood filtered through vetiver's earthier tones. The name, simply French for "wood," telegraphs the intent without ceremony, and the scent follows through on that minimalism.
What's interesting here is the composition's deliberate pivot away from the heavier signatures the brand is often associated with. Bois swaps those denser directions for grapefruit, magnolia, and dry wood, with ambroxan pulling warm-skin duty at the base. The opening's bright citrus and the magnolia's soft, slightly creamy floral character create an airy mid-stage that contrasts with the grounded wood notes underneath. The magnolia here reads more lemony and translucent than indolic or buttery, which keeps the composition feeling light through its first hour.
