The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2013, Mugler returned to the Alien universe with something unexpected: a fusion between their signature solar fragrance and the world of spirits. Perfumers Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyere developed a patented method inspired by traditional rum production techniques, aging the juice in toasted oak caskets to draw out a richer, deeper character. The result was Alien Liqueur de Parfum, a limited edition that transformed Alien's solar jasmine into something more complex, more intimate, more alive. It wasn't a flanker. It was a reimagining.
The toasted oak aging is what sets this apart. Most flankers add a note or two; Liqueur changes the fundamental texture of the scent by borrowing a technique from spirits-making. Jasmine sambac brings its tropical intensity, but the Cashmeran in the heart adds a soft, enveloping quality, like cashmere, hence the name. The almond note gives it an edible, almost gourmand warmth that balances the florals. Together, these materials create something that feels simultaneously natural and otherworldly.
The evolution
The opening is immediate: jasmine sambac bursting with solar warmth, amber lending a golden glow, and a whisper of something boozy from the oak aging. Within twenty minutes, the almond emerges, creamy, almost marzipan-like, while Cashmeran wraps everything in a soft, powdery embrace. The heart is dual-natured: edible sweetness and textile warmth, coexisting. The drydown shifts to amber and woody notes, with the almond slowly fading. On skin, projection is strong for the first three to four hours, then settles into a close, intimate warmth that lingers for ten hours or more. On fabric, it can last until the next day.
Cultural impact
Alien Liqueur de Parfum represents a bold experiment within the Alien franchise, taking the solar jasmine concept and aging it in toasted oak caskets, borrowing a technique from spirits-making. The result is a limited edition that feels genuinely different from its source material. With exceptional longevity and strong sillage, it's become a signature for those who want their fragrance to announce them before they've entered the room.
