The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Remember My Name arrived in 2023 as a fragrance that set out to make a statement. Olaf Larsen, the perfumer credited with this composition, brought a structural sensibility to a brief that called for something bold, something built to linger in a room long after the wearer has left. The fragrance reads as an answer to a single question: what makes a perfume unforgettable? Remember My Name is that answer, or at least one very confident version of it. The name itself is a challenge, an instruction. Wear it and be remembered. From the first spray, saffron makes its presence known in a way that feels almost geological, like heat rising off sun-baked stone.
The composition's most interesting structural choice is the decision to build the entire edifice on a saffron-rose-freesia pillar, then drag it through violet, orris, and jasmine sambac before arriving at animalic leather and oud. The powdery floral mid-section earns the animalic turn by softening the transition, making it feel less like a dirty surprise and more like a slow reveal. That mid-section does heavy lifting.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are dominated by saffron and rose. Not a polite bouquet saffron, the leathery, almost metallic kind that smells like a heated spice market at dusk. Freesia adds a cool green shiver underneath. Together they read bright but heavy, the kind of opening that makes you check your wrist twice in the first hour. Around the forty-minute mark, the florals take over. Violet arrives first, cool and powdery, then orris deepens it into something that feels almost cosmetic, like the inside of a vintage compact. Jasmine sambac creeps in from behind, indolic and warm, while ylang-ylang pushes the whole heart toward a creamy, almost buttery density. The spices listed in the pyramid never announce themselves as a separate phase; they thread through everything, warming the florals from inside. The transition into drydown is where the composition earns its name. Somewhere around the three-hour mark, the powder begins to crack.
Cultural impact
Remember My Name sits as one of the more polarizing entries in recent niche launches, and that controversy is part of what makes it worth talking about. Its animalic drydown and oud-influenced base give it a character that splits opinion, with some wearers embracing its heavier, more resinous lean and others finding the leather-oud combination too aggressive for daily wear.
