The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Meraki Cedar arrived in 2024 from Maison Nomad Noé, with the composition making its intent clearest. Cedarwood and birch establish a brisk, woody frame before cloves, leather, and Indonesian nutmeg pull the fragrance inward. The name points to absorption, to a sensory experience that settles deep rather than merely making an entrance. There is no grand origin story attached to the perfume, no invented place or private memory. Its narrative comes from the materials: dry bark, smooth leather, warm spice, and the comfort of vanilla. That tension gives Meraki Cedar its character, balancing wood that feels cool and spare with notes that turn increasingly tactile, warm, and close.
The striking part is the contrast between polished woods and lived-in textures. Cedarwood and birch bring a dry vertical quality, while leather makes the composition feel handled rather than pristine. Indonesian nutmeg adds woodsmoke without becoming a heavy spice accord. Vanilla then changes the temperature of the blend, not by making it overtly sweet, but by placing something soft beneath the sharper woody materials. Guaiac Wood and Indonesian Patchouli Leaf give the base depth. Patchouli brings an earthy, slightly green darkness, while Guaiac Wood adds a smooth, smoky foundation.
The evolution
The first impression is brisk and woody, with cedarwood rising against the pale, dry snap of birch. That brightness soon gives way to cloves and Indonesian nutmeg, introducing a controlled warmth that makes the fragrance feel less like a walk in the woods and more like a cabin after rain. Leather enters as the tactile centerpiece, carrying the composition from clean structure toward something supple and close. Then vanilla arrives, not as a dessert-like sweetness but as a softing layer around the spice and wood. During the drydown, Indonesian Patchouli Leaf and Guaiac Wood take over, deepening the base with earthy and smoky weight. As the composition develops, the sharper wood and spice qualities become less pronounced, while leather, vanilla, patchouli, and the smooth base of Guaiac Wood shape the warmer final impression.
Cultural impact
Meraki Cedar is a unisex fragrance built around clean woods, supple leather, spice, and soft vanilla. Its appeal lies in the way these materials meet: crisp birch and cedarwood provide structure, cloves and Indonesian nutmeg introduce warmth, leather adds tactility, and vanilla softens the composition without making it overtly sweet. Patchouli and Guaiac Wood deepen the base with earthy and smoky dimensions, inviting attention to the details of how each note interacts over time.
The House
Maison Nomad NoéMaison Nomad Noé is a fragrance house founded in New York City in 2019 by Corentin Hamon. The brand creates Eaux de Parfum and scented candles designed to capture life's most meaningful moments through scent. Operating as part of Forest, a family-run creative business based in East Dulwich, London, the house blends olfactory artistry with narrative storytelling. Their 2024 collection introduced five new fragrances: Meraki Cedar, Moonwake Tuberose, Untamed Neroli, Elysian Rose, and Prophetic Saffron, each crafted to evoke specific emotional landscapes and personal journeys. The brand occupies a distinctive position in the niche fragrance market by treating each creation as a vessel for memory and meaning rather than simply a luxury product.
