Why it exists.
The beginning
Luluforever arrived in 2008, in the middle of Lulu Castagnette's prolific run of women's fragrances. The brief reads easy: something bright, something sweet, something the wearer doesn't have to think about. Perfumer Karine Dubreuil-Sereni built it around a fruit-led top, sour cherry, bergamot, yuzu, layered together in a way that announces itself the moment it lands on skin. The name does what it says. Forever as a posture, not a promise. A scent that wants to live in the everyday, in the rotation, in the bag you grab without looking.
What makes the composition worth a second look is the pivot from fruit to musk. Luluforever pulls a quiet switch in the base: cedarwood and sandalwood soften the sugar, then white musk sweeps in and takes the warmth with it. The result is a scent that smells like dessert from across the room but reads like skin up close. The musk holds the composition together through the late hours, giving the opening fruit a soft landing instead of letting it evaporate into nothing.
The evolution
Sour cherry and yuzu arrive almost at the same time, the cherry sweet-tart and the yuzu sharp and clean. Bergamot sits underneath, giving the citrus a rounded edge. The fruit is loud. Almost candied. Then jasmine and the heart notes start pulling the sweetness downward, softening the edges, letting the composition breathe. Pear adds a watery crispness, pineapple tilts the blend somewhere warmer and more tropical, and jasmine threads through quietly, never heady, just warm enough to keep the sugar from floating off. As the hours pass the fruit retreats, and what remains is warm and close: jasmine still humming, the woods beginning to settle in. Cedarwood and sandalwood arrive together, giving the base its quiet weight. The white musk arrives last and stays.
