The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Watch King came out of a collaboration between Lost Tribe and a New York watch collector known simply as The Watch King, released in 2026 from the brand's Pure Parfum line. The Watch King's preferences run toward rich ouds, dark resins, and the coiled sweetness of Arabian perfumery, and Schmuelian, listed as brand owner and perfume maker, composed the fragrance with those sensibilities in mind. The result is a parfum that holds the weight of a collector's cabinet without ever reading as a museum piece. Lost Tribe presents the release as a natural, high-concentration composition, and Watch King continues that approach at parfum strength. At this concentration the raw materials carry more presence on skin, and each note lands with a density that lighter formulations can't reach.
What defines Watch King is the density of its resin-and-leather architecture and the way the supporting notes hold it together. Oud and leather anchor the composition, incense and benzoin add depth, and Peru balsam plus French vanilla keep the structure from sinking under its own weight. Allspice and rose work alongside these heavier materials, adding brightness and lift to a base that would otherwise feel closed off. The interplay between these ingredients creates a layered experience where no single note dominates for long.
The evolution
The opening is the most active phase of the wear. Smoke lifts off quickly, almost before the leather settles, and there's a flash of allspice that feels bright and warm. The rose shows up earlier than expected, threading through the incense before the composition darkens into its main act. Oud and leather take over as the smoke clears, and the incense thickens into a dense, almost ceremonial atmosphere. Peru balsam and benzoin anchor everything from beneath, sticky and resinous, providing the structural foundation that the rest of the composition rests on. The vanilla surfaces slowly, softening the edges without sweetening them into something gentle. It's a sweetness that feels baked in rather than applied, the kind of warmth that develops over hours rather than announcing itself upfront. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its concentration.
Cultural impact
Watch King reads as Arabian-inspired without performing Arabian perfumery. The composition leans on resin and leather rather than rose-saffron-oud orthodoxy, creating a different kind of oud fragrance than what's typical in the current market. Collectors who have followed Lost Tribe will recognize the natural-only formula approach applied at parfum strength, which is a meaningful shift from the brand's earlier concentrations. The collaboration with a named New York collector adds a personal layer that most brand-collector releases lack, giving the fragrance a specific identity rather than a generic luxury positioning.
