The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Les Parfums de Rosine has always treated rose as a question, never an answer. Frisson de Rose asks what happens when you open a rose in a cold room, the petals still fragrant, but the air around them carrying something unexpected. The name itself is the concept: a shiver of rose, that moment when beauty catches you off-guard. Launched in 2013, this composition was built to surprise from the first breath.
The tension here is structural, not accidental. Mint at the opening does what mint does, it cools, sharpens, prepares the skin for something more. Then Bulgarian rose arrives, joined by saffron and clove, layering warmth that builds beneath the initial freshness. The dried fruits add a quiet sweetness that never overwhelms. It's a rose for people who think they don't like rose.
The evolution
The opening is mint and citrus, lemon, bergamot, that clean shiver. Twenty minutes in, the Bulgarian rose takes over but the mint doesn't disappear entirely. It hangs around like a memory of the beginning, keeping the flower sharp and alive rather than soft and familiar. The cloves and saffron add warmth that sneaks up on you. By the drydown, sandalwood and amber create something quiet and close to the skin. The musk stays longest, the final trace, hours later, still carrying that faint green freshness beneath the warmth.
Cultural impact
Frisson de Rose occupies a specific space: fresh-floral-spicy with aromatic green and citrus accords. It appeals to wearers seeking a rose that doesn't behave like a typical rose fragrance, something cooler, more alive, slightly unexpected. The mint opening creates a distinct first impression, an immediate coolness that announces itself before the floral heart has a chance to settle. Beneath this initial chill, Bulgarian rose blooms warm and full, its richness unfolding slowly against a backdrop of subtle spice. The green and citrus elements weave through the composition, keeping the overall effect from ever feeling heavy or predictable.
