The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lattafa, founded in the UAE in 1980, has built its identity on accessible opulence, producing fragrances in-house with clear Arabian heritage. The brand's philosophy holds that luxury should not require a luxury price tag, and their visual language reflects this with maximalist, ornate presentation. Qaed Al Fursan Untamed arrives in 2025 as part of Lattafa's ongoing exploration of what Arabian perfumery can say when it stops apologizing for being itself. The original Qaed Al Fursan launched in 2016, a saffron-pineapple oriental that became a staple for those who wanted weight without pretense. Untamed represents a deliberate shift in the aromatic narrative while maintaining the brand's commitment to bold, unapologetic scent.
The note selection for Qaed Al Fursan Untamed reflects a deliberate pairing philosophy: warm spices and citrus open the composition to create immediate impact, while caramel and herbal elements temper that intensity with sweetness and greenness. The drydown notes of amber, cedarwood, frankincense, and labdanum provide the resinous depth that defines Arabian perfumery, with vetiver adding an earthy counterweight. This structure ensures the fragrance moves through distinct phases rather than remaining static, giving wearers a dynamic experience over several hours. The balance between sweetness and warmth, spice and resin, creates a versatile Oriental composition that feels both familiar and fresh.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with a volatile, attention-commanding opening of cinnamon and cardamom, their warm spice immediately evident alongside mandarin's citrus lift and nutmeg's subtle depth. This initial phase establishes the fragrance's confident character before transitioning into the heart, where caramel introduces unexpected sweetness. The herbal presence of clary sage and lavender prevents this sweetness from becoming dominant, while geranium adds a refined floral nuance. Cypress, with its dry balsamic quality, bridges the heart to the base. The drydown brings the composition into its most grounded territory: amber and cedarwood form a warm woody-resinous foundation, frankincense and labdanum contribute sacred, smoky resin, and vetiver provides earthy completion. This arc moves from animated spice to softened sweetness to resolved warmth.
Cultural impact
Arabian fragrances have long held a special place in global perfumery, rooted in traditions of hospitality and luxury that date back centuries. Omani frankincense, Arabian oud, and spice-forward compositions dominated the region's scent culture long before Western markets took notice. Qaed Al Fursan Untamed fits squarely within this tradition, drawing on the region's love of bold, warm spices like cinnamon and cardamom that feature prominently in both culinary and aromatic heritage. Lattafa Perfumes has become a significant player in democratizing access to these rich aromatic traditions, producing fragrances inspired by Western luxury houses at accessible price points.
