The Story
Why it exists.
In 2019, Lancôme returned to La Vie est Belle with a specific question: what if the happiness was still there, but lighter? More luminous. More floral. The house turned to Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion, the same duo behind the original, and asked them to make something that felt like the same woman, in a different light. The result was La Vie est Belle en Rose, a variant built on the same architecture as the original but rebuilt at its foundations. Less iris, more fruit. Less cream, more sparkle. The rose wasn't added to the formula, it was woven through it, so that every layer had a slightly pinker register. The perfumers described it as a fresher, more radiant interpretation, one that kept the signature smile but gave it a softer blush.

The Beginning
What makes en Rose interesting as a variant is how precisely it redirects the original's character rather than simply softening it. The original La Vie est Belle is built around a sweet Iris-Praline heart that reads warm and ambery. En Rose replaces that richness with a tart-fruity opening, raspberry, red berries, that acts almost like a correction. The rose in the heart brings a different kind of depth, introducing a floral brightness that shifts the overall feeling. Damask rose dominates the heart, with peony threading through to keep the composition from becoming too heavy.
The Evolution
It opens with a burst, bergamot, red berries, a flash of pink pepper that adds a slight sparkle without sharpness. Within minutes the fruity layer softens as the roses arrive: Damask first, then a peony note that threads through and keeps things from getting too heavy. The lily of the valley appears quietly in the background, adding a clean-green lift that stops the rose from becoming syrupy. By hour two, the fruit has retreated almost entirely, and what's left is the rose-peony core over a base of patchouli, sandalwood, and musk. The patchouli is well-behaved here, present but not dirty, adding earth without darkness. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its reputation: a soft, powdery-woody warmth that stays close to the skin but never disappears.
Cultural Impact
La Vie est Belle en Rose sits within a prominent fragrance franchise, a line that has developed with multiple variants exploring different facets of the La Vie est Belle concept. The en Rose variant occupies a distinctive position within this family. It offers a different perspective on the original's spirit, bringing a lighter and more luminous quality through its fruity and rosy character. The composition leans into berry notes and Damask rose, creating an experience that feels both sophisticated and approachable. Wearers often describe it as floral without being precious, carrying a joyful quality that feels natural rather than forced.

The fragrance sounds like a song that knows exactly what it is, bright opening notes that announce themselves confidently, then a softer middle that invites you in rather than demands attention. There's an Ariana Grande track that matches the energy: sweet but not lightweight, present without being loud. The drydown has a quiet warmth that stays with you, the kind of song you'd leave on repeat. Think pop with depth, not background music.
