The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bubble Gum arrived in 2024 from Kinfolk Notes, a fragrance line drawn to the small, specific feelings that a single scent can carry. Bubble Gum is one of those feelings, the uncomplicated brightness of popping a piece of gum on a walk through the city, when everything is light and nothing needs to be serious. There's a deliberate playfulness in the composition, a choice to lean into something brighter and more immediate than the brand's quieter releases. The opening is candy-sweet and almost edible, with pear and orange giving way to bergamot and lemon that keep the sugar in check. As the top notes soften, freesia, rose, and jasmine bring a soft floral warmth, a thread of petals through the fruit.
What makes this composition interesting is how it balances two very different impulses. The top is all fruit, bright pear and citrus doing the cheerful work, while the base grounds it with patchouli and amber that give the sweetness somewhere to land. The freesia and jasmine in the heart keep things from veering into candy territory. It's a bubblegum that grew up slightly. Still sweet, but with a floral backbone that makes it wearable beyond a single summer.
The evolution
The opening is the loudest part, and that's by design. Pear and orange hit first, sweet and almost edible, the kind of immediate burst that makes people lean in. Bergamot and lemon sit underneath, keeping things from collapsing into pure sugar and lending a clean brightness that cuts through the fruit. As the top notes soften, the florals arrive. Freesia leads, airy and soapy-clean, then rose and jasmine add a soft warmth, almost powdery at the edges. There's a fruity sweetness that lingers through the heart, but it's now threaded through petals rather than standing alone, the composition shifting from candy to something more floral and nuanced. Eventually the base settles in. Amber and musk create a skin-close warmth, while patchouli adds just enough earthiness to keep the whole thing from floating away.
Cultural impact
Bubble Gum by KINFOLK NOTES takes a familiar confection and treats it as a serious subject for perfumery, layering bergamot, lemon, orange, and pear to recreate the bright, sugary impression of the candy it draws its name from. The opening is sweet and almost edible, the kind of immediate hit that makes people lean in. As the citrus settles, freesia, rose, and jasmine step forward, lending a soft floral warmth that keeps the composition from reading as one-dimensional. The base of amber, musk, and patchouli adds a skin-close warmth that grounds the playfulness.
