The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Founded in Paris in 2012, Kajal blends Middle Eastern scent heritage with European refinement, crafting narrative-driven niche perfumes that honor cultural memory. Joorie draws its name from the Persian word for rose, a symbol of love embodying both tender devotion and bold passion. When Alix Miral set out to create the scent for the Wardé collection, the brief called for a fragrance that could translate that duality into olfactory form. The result is an oriental floral that honors both the richness of Middle Eastern perfumery and the precision of Parisian composition.
Rose and orange blossom anchor the heart, their floralcy balanced by the spiced warmth of clove and ginger in the opening. The drydown pairs honeyed sweetness with deep woods, creating contrast between tender florals and resinous sensuality. Oud and sandalwood ground the composition while tonka and vanilla provide the warmth that makes Joorie feel simultaneously intimate and commanding. The fragrance captures a tension between softness and boldness that feels distinctly Middle Eastern in its romantic intensity, filtered through the compositional clarity of French perfumery.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with a spiced immediacy. Clove and ginger arrive with clear intensity, their warmth supported by black pepper and a fleeting citrus lift from lemon and bergamot. The transition into the heart unfolds gradually over the next hour, revealing rose and orange blossom wrapped in ylang-ylang creaminess. This floral heart feels simultaneously romantic and potent, maintaining the duality that defines Joorie. As the drydown develops, honey and vanilla temper the spice without dissolving it. Cedarwood and sandalwood establish a woody foundation while oud and patchouli add depth and darkness. The fragrance settles into a long, warm trail of resinous woods and honeyed sweetness that extends for hours.
Cultural impact
Since its 2018 debut, Joorie has become a winter favourite among niche collectors, praised for its bold spice‑sweet profile that bridges Eastern richness with a Western rose sensibility. Wearers often cite its strong sillage and long‑lasting honey‑oud trail as reasons it stands out beside peers like Amouage Lyric and Byredo Gypsy Water.
