The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aquaterrae arrived in 2025 as part of Kahf's Extrait de Parfum line, composed by perfumer Benjamin Foatelli. The fragrance reads as a meeting point between two elements, the cool rush of marine air against something warm and grounded underneath. The brand's own copy frames it as 'freshness meets drive,' and the composition delivers exactly that handshake. Saffiano Leather™, an impression the brand highlights in its materials, anchors the base while ozonic materials up top keep it from tipping into something heavy or traditional. The opening carries that ionized, almost-mineral coldness, and as the hours pass, that chill softens but never fully leaves. What stays consistent is the dialogue between the airy top notes and the dense leather base, with neither fully winning out.
The interesting move here is the contrast architecture. Aquaterrae threads both states at once. Materials like Betahydrane™ and Mugane™ bring that marine, almost ionized quality to both the top and heart, so the freshness threads through the lavender, sage, and geranium, then lands in frankincense and amber without losing its lift. The Saffiano Leather™ note is what makes the drydown feel textured rather than flat, like suede rather than vinyl.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and sharp. Grapefruit and pink pepper give it that fizzy, almost carbonated quality while the ozonic notes spread out behind them like a wide-open window. Betahydrane™ reads as cold mineral air, clean and slightly metallic in a way that feels intentional rather than synthetic. First twenty minutes and it's all horizon. Then the heart takes over and the picture changes. Lavender and sage pull the temperature down to something cooler, more aromatic, while geranium adds a green, slightly bitter edge. The Mugane™ keeps the marine thread alive so it never fully becomes a traditional fougère. By hour two or three, the frankincense has crept up from the base and the leather starts to show itself. Not loud. Not the jacket-in-a-cigar-lounge kind. More like the lining of a coat you've been wearing all day.
Cultural impact
Aquaterrae presents a composition that draws on marine-aromatic vocabulary while grounding it in materials like Saffiano Leather™, frankincense, and amber, a layering approach that gives it weight beyond the typical aquatic genre. The extrait concentration signals an emphasis on richness and presence, with the brand listing longevity of up to twelve hours in its own materials. Grapefruit and pink pepper open the fragrance with brightness, while lavender, sage, and geranium build a green herbal heart that bridges the airy top and the resinous-leather base.
