Sakura

The note structure keeps things straightforward. Two top notes, three heart notes, two base notes, each one doing visible work. The lychee gives the opening its specific character, juicy and slightly tropical, and the mandarin sharpens it with citrus lift. In the heart, cedar shows up instead of a denser wood, which keeps the middle phase dry rather than creamy and lets the rose breathe. The jasmine adds warmth and a touch of indolic ripeness alongside the rose, and the two florals sit close together rather than fighting for space.

The evolution

The opening belongs to the fruit. Mandarin brings bright citrus sweetness that feels immediate, and lychee layers in with a candied, almost syrupy quality that softens the citrus edge. The lychee-mandarin combination lasts through the early phase, giving the first impressions a juicy, lifted character. As the top notes settle, the florals come forward together. Rose reads as the louder of the two, slightly jammy rather than green or dewy, sitting alongside jasmine that leans indolic and warm rather than cool. The jasmine keeps the heart from going too polite, and the rose gives it body. Cedar threads through quietly underneath, a faint pencil-shaving dryness that keeps the florals from becoming syrupy.
